Their First Movie

The Oz kids finally saw their first movie! We wanted it to be a classic (my first was E.T.---total classic!) ......and we wanted them to be old enough to sit through the entire thing and not to embarrass us in the theater. Well, as luck would have it, we didn't have to worry about the embarrassment part.........we were the only folks in the theater!! The kids were VERY excited to go to the movies and mommy and daddy were excited to take them!!

We saw The Princess and the Frog.

Yay! We have Tickets!
Brady LOVES popcorn!! Good thing it was $1 popcorn night!

I kept trying to explain what was going on to the kids throughout the entire movie. Finally, Karson turned to me and said, "Mommy, you ARE NOT supposed to talk in the theater!" AT least she remembered the rules........but luckily we had the place to ourselves!
We even got up and danced during all the songs........well, Daddy Oz and the kids did. I took pictures!

It was a fun night. However, this was not my favorite Disney movie.......and it did not even come close to the awesomeness of the classics like Cinderella or Snow White. I was not thrilled with all of the voodoo stuff or references to "friends on the other side" or scary shadowy figures or the fact the Shadowman promised his "friends" that they could have lots of wayword souls if they helped him. Our kids asked lots of questions.......and we tried to give some good biblical answers. I am a little disappointed in Disney for adding so much of the dark stuff into this movie. It could have been just as good without it!
Here is a REVIEW by Focus on the Family's Plugged In Movie Guide. I don't know if I completely agree with the reviewer. I think he was a little too kind to Disney's emphasis on all of the dark magic. But, you should decide for yourself!

I Don't Know Who to Marry????

“Mommy, I don’t know who to marry,” has consumed most of Sissy’s (aka Karson) thoughts lately. She is very concerned about who she is going to marry because she REALLY wants to be a mommy. In fact, the other day, we drove past Eastman, and I asked Brady, “Are you gonna be an engineer and work there like Daddy someday?” And, he said, “Yes!”(....but added that he might be a cook there instead of an engineer.) Then I asked Karson, and she looked at me like I was totally crazy and said, “No! I am gonna stay home and not do anything.” (Boy, Jeremy got a kick out of that!) I said, “Karson, you can’t just not do anything.” And, she said, “But, Mommy…..I am gonna be a mommy, and I just want to take care of my baby like you, Mommy.” So you see, the kid LOVES babies……..real babies…..doll babies….animal babies….animated babies…..you get the picture. Of course, we told her that she has to be married and have a daddy to have a baby……trying to get her to understand that it will be a LONG time before she can be a “real” mommy to a “real” baby.

Now that she understands that she needs a daddy for a baby, she is VERY concerned about WHO she is gonna marry. At first she thought she had it all figured out. She was sure that she was going to marry Brady. When we told her that wasn’t an option, she moved on to Daddy, then G-Daddy, Papa and all her male cousins. We explained to her that she would marry a boy that is not in our family. So, she has seriously deliberated over the 3 boys in her pre-school class…..trying to decide who might be best……..but, I think she thinks none of them are the perfect option (she did tell me that one of them does not push her down so she might choose him.)

Seriously, worrying about who to marry has been a real topic of concern for Miss Priss. Finally, she came to me the other day holding up five fingers and said, “Mommy, Daddy said he is going to choose a man for me to marry when I’m this old.” Her Daddy said, “Add 30 years to that hand and you’ve got a deal!”

But, we’ve added to our prayers at night for Jesus to please help find and watch over the person Karson is gonna marry.

These pics are from the first wedding Karson attended last weekend with her Grammy. I told her she better watch those flower girls carefully since she is gonna be one in June. I just hope she understands that she is just dropping the flowers and not the one getting married.
Brady, on the other hand, is not concerned at all about who to marry. He is way too cool for that......except to say, "I am NOT gonna marry a guwl! I don't like pink! I am gonna marry a boy wife!" Smart thinking son. I think, except for a few particular activites, most men wish they had a boy wife too!

Let it snow!!

Ahhhh......snow!! Yep, we got some last weekend! It was enough snow to break out Karson's used, slightly too small $15 snowsuit and wish that I'd found one for Braids.....and bitten the bullet and picked up some boots for them at Wally World. Anyway, we had loads of fun. See for yourself!

Brady said, "I have to wipe off Daddy's car so he can see to go to work." Nice thought.....too bad it was a Saturday.Yummy....... Eastman flavored snow! Yep, it tastes just like money! We decided to drive over the hill to Grammy and G-Daddy's house to find a better hill.

My little snow angels :)

This was the beginning of Frosty. And this is the finished Frosty.
1 potato nose
2 button eyes
2 twigs
1 red crayon mouth
1 random SCOSA soccer hat (whose origins are completely unknown)
and 1 Irish scarf snatched from the neck of some unsuspecting Irish stranger on my college study abroad

A true masterpiece!

How Deep.......

their Daddy's love is for them.........It is midnight and I just came upstairs. I thought things seemed unusually quiet.....no cries for water or "I gotta go potty" games. I just peaked into Brady's room and this is the current scene.
2 kids, a million stuffed friends and 1 sweet daddy (who left this morning way before the sun came up and returned long after dinner had been put away)
Right away, it reminded me that if earthly fathers' love their children this much.......it is just plain impossible to fathom just how much MORE our Heavenly Father loves us!! But, He does! So much more!! What a MIRACLE to be called a child of the King!
"How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are!" 1 John 3:1

Show us your Life..... Tree Party

It is Christmastime in Tennessee!! I love, love, love when the house is decorated for the holidays!! It just feels so cozy and happy! Though, it does get a little annoying to keep having to plug and unplug ALL of the lighted décor numerous times a day! It is too bad that I am seriously Fire Marshall Bill (do you remember him from "In Living Color"??) and worry about leaving lights on we aren't home or sadly, even in the next room. Yet, I am too cheap to just break down and just get some timers!!!!!

Anyway…..the trees are up and we have several new additions at our house this year.
Karson got a little pink tree for her room this year. She is all about the PINK. She is not at all happy that her walls are still blue……and she has made this very, very clear!!! That is the next project Sissy……I promise! For now, just enjoy your pink tree!

And, to go along with the theme of Brady’s new big boy room, his tree rings in some holiday cheer for the Red, Blue and Gray…….all the way!! He helped me put all of the ornaments on his South Rebel tree and he is very proud of it!! We are sad that football season is over……but his tree still shines brightly with southern pride stand’n tall……we’re still #1 in football!!

Another new addition this year is what I like to refer to as the vintage tree……1980’s vintage that is! A couple of weeks ago, I rescued all of my childhood ornaments out of my parent’s basement. They had been forced into retirement when my mom got a new tree and all new, fabulous matching ornaments. But, I missed the old ornaments that I remember hanging on the tree as a kid. So, I dedicated this little tree to hold memories from the 80’s……when leggings, plaid shirts and bomber jackets were cool…..wait...…is history repeating itself or what?

This is an ornament I made in girl scouts in 5th grade. It was my first and last completed cross-stitching project. Yep, that's me.....in Sunday School when I was 7. And this is supposed to be me circa 1980. Moving on........This tree used to be the “Baby Tree” that was all decked out in all pastel pink and blue to celebrate my twins’ first few Christmas’s. Sadly, they aren’t babies anymore……so the tree had to grow up a bit. Now, it is in the kitchen sporting a pink, green, silver and white motif to blend in with my new curtains and kitchen renovation updates….which I will show in another post........I promise!
The little tree in the dining room is an old favorite. It is my tiny teacup tree. It was very wobbly and sad looking after being weighted down by all its ornaments. So, I stuck it in one of my toile boxes. Now, it is much happier!
For the past 2 years, we have had our big, live tree in the living room to keep it away from little toddler hands. This year, they finally understand that they CAN’T touch the tree (that doesn’t always stop them…..but they understand)!!!!! So, we put up a small tree in the living room and saved the big tree for our den…..where we spend most of our time. Since we moved rooms, we had to change themes for the main tree. I had been using toile ribbon (I have a little toile obsession in case you don't already know :) ) and flowers dusted with glitter on our main tree. But, I decided to save the fancy, shamancy stuff for the living room and make the big tree just plain fun. So we got a $15 dollar tree at Lowe's for our old decor and here it is:
I soooo wanted the kids to be able to put all of their glorious pre-school creations on the tree!! Like most folks, we let the kids pick out an ornament each year and I didn’t wanna worry about if they matched or stuck to a certain color scheme! So, this tree is done in traditional red and green and just a tree full of new and old Oz family memories.Daddy Oz's happy little football......My Troop 157 Brownie from first or second grade......One of the many sweet wedding themed ornaments we received for our holiday wedding!

Yay for Christmas! But most of all......yay for Jesus' Birthday! We are so thankful for Emmanuel "God with us!!!"

Now, go to Kelly's blog and check out all of the other trees at her "Show us your Life.....Tree Party!"

Goodbye Fall......but not Football Season!

This week, I am saying goodbye to my fall décor to make room for Christmas trimmings. Luckily, there is still one aspect of fall that hasn’t ended yet……..REBEL Football!!
Goodbye repurposed rod-iron flower hanger thingy that I saved from my brother's wedding. Goodbye bird-pecked foam pumpkins and aging Mr. Scarecrow

Goodbye fall kiddo pics from seasons past. Goodbye Pier 1 clearance tree thingy. Goodbye dollar store decorated fall tree.

Hello, South Rebel football tree in Brady's new big boy room! Brady had fun decorating you!!! We hope you will continue to beam with pride when the Rebs win this Friday Night!!!
R-E-B-E-L-S!! Rebels, Rebels, Rebels are the Best........Oh Yes!!!!!!!
