Update******* Thankfully, my friend's parents are fine!! Praise the Lord!! They were in the airport parking lot when the quake happened and didn't even realize the extent of the damage or magnitude of the situation until they drove into town and saw the destruction. Her dad was able to assist at one of the Doctors' without Borders clinics........setting broken bones with cardboard and scraps of wood. He said that it was his Boy Scout training that came in the most handy........as there were no real medical supplies available! We are so glad they are okay! But, we are still praying for the child we have been sponsoring for about 5 years through World Vision International. His name is Joseph and he lives in Haiti. We haven't heard anything about him or his family's safety yet. Please keep him in your prayers!
By now, you have all heard about the devastating earthquake in Haiti. My friend LeeAnn, who is in my small group at church and the mommy of Karson and Brady's pre-schoolfriend Aly, is waiting for word from her parents in Haiti. Her father is a physician and her mother has a P.h.d. in nursing. They have been traveling to Haiti for 30 years on missions and her mother is the president of a nursing school there. This Wednesday they landed in Haiti at around 3:00 pm to do some more mission work. My friend spoke to her mother via cell when they landed and all was well. The earthquake hit at 4:53 pm, and she has not heard from them since. Unfortunately, they were not traveling with a group so this makes finding their where-abouts and travel agenda even more difficult.
Yesterday, she received a call that some folks her parents were thought to have had contact with upon arrival in Haiti had made it safely to a hotel. But the news was short lived when her brother was able to contact the hotel and got a list of the folks who were there.
Obviously, the Lord had them arrive right before the quake hit. I am praying that he is using them to help treat and care for others at this very moment. However, waiting for news of their safety is SO difficult for their family. So, please take a moment to pray for this sweet couple who has served Christ and the people of Haiti for so many years. Pray for their safety and their ability to contact their children back in the US very soon. Also, please pray for peace for LeeAnn and her brother Matt as they wait for news.
